Turning the Tables: Using Non-English Conversation Tables to Create Connections for International Students, Campus, and Community

International students, especially those studying in English language institutes at universities the United States, often struggle to create connections with local students and host community. Learners of non-English languages also find opportunities practice that are uncommon surrounding This Practice Report describes an innovation where, instead using Conversation Tables help international English, professors “turned tables” allowed become experts, teaching their cultures weekly Non-English held a mid-sized rural public university. Through Tables, both domestic developed meaningful connections, deepening on-campus engagement. These fostered self-growth intercultural competence groups some whom had very limited prior experiences cultural diversity. The authors identify characteristics tables led success, including location, facilitation, promotion, provide model for reproducing intervention other contexts.
